Today in PE Year 4 have been working on their Gymnastic skills. We learned to hold and control a balance whilst creating a bridge with our bodies. We then looked at making our bridges have two levels, whilst at the same time trying to be symmetrical. We did a fantastic job! Move over Beth Tweddle, here come Year 4!
To celebrate World Mental Health day on Monday, Year 4 took some “me time”. In between making our DT projects, we took some time to relax. We had a 5 minute meditation with some lovely soothing music using Tibetan singing bowls and also did some mindfulness colouring and drawing.
On Monday, after our relaxing meditation, we set our minds to creating a communication device for an evil genius. We used our science skills to create an electrical circuit and our DT design skills to plan our masterpiece! Our intention was to communicate with our loyal minions using Morse code, which was used during World War I and II to communicate in secret.
This week in music, we looked at tempo. We used percussion instruments to try and follow the changing tempo in different pieces of music. We also used our bodies to move appropriately to the tempo.
5 Blue’s Science and DT lesson sent them down an electrifying route this week, when they experienced making circuits.
Miss Davison was extremely mean, when she handed 5 Blue a pack of broken electrical parts and simply said, “Make it work!”
All of 5 Blue rose to the challenge and managed to make, bulbs light, motors spin and buzzers buzz. They even discovered what happens when you reverse the flow of electrical current.
As part of our “Full of Beans” theme, 5 Blue looked at the energy people get from the coco bean. Obviously, it was absolutely imperative that we find out how the coco bean is transformed from a bitter, inedible bean into the smooth, delicious chocolate we buy in the shops.
Feel free to ask one of us what we have learned at the chocolate factory.
