Dear Parent / Carer
The Department for Education (DfE) has provided grant funding to South Tyneside Council, to
co-ordinate free holiday provision for children and young people aged 5-16 years entitled to freeschool meals. The HAF programme has key objectives for children including:
To have access to free healthy food over the school holidays
To be more active during the school holidays
To take part in free fun, engaging and enriching activities supporting resilience and wellbeing
To be safe and make new friends in a sociable environment.
During the main school holidays of Easter, Summer and Christmas thousands of places can be booked ‘free of charge’ for a vast range of sport, arts/crafts, dance, and drama activities, along with family events such as bowling at The Dunes, nature activities at the Brockley Allotments and performances at The Customs House. We also have organisations that provide specific sessions for
SEND children.
All information regarding the activities on offer and how to book can be found at:
www.southtyneside.gov.uk/holidayclub and bookings for our Spring programme will go live at
4pm on Friday 17 th March.
Please refer to the letter and leaflet attached for more information.
We had so much fun in PE this week. We have been developing our dribbling skills and learning how to keep possession of the ball. As you can see we are really good and can’t wait for next weeks session!
2 Red had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day!
Using ‘There’s An Alien In Your Book!’ by Tom Fletcher we completed very creative tasks such as…
- moulding our own aliens to match the mystery description using modelling clay,
- creating our very own game of rhyming snap using creatures from our world,
- designing a home, family and friends for the alien
- and finally inventing and making a space ship to help our alien to return home.
Our day ended with some out of this world science!
School Council introduce the Hebburn Lakes chant!
We have a new chant, using ideas from all of the children… it is fabulous!
In Jigsaw he have created a bird to go into our garden of dreams. We designed it together, then in our teams we created it. We have been learning all about how to work as a team and learning that when you do you can create some wonderful creations – as you can see here.
2 Purple have had so much fun with our Land Ahoy! theme this week. We have been designing a remote control to help a pirate with one eye, a hook for a hand and a parrot on his shoulder! First we drew the pirate that we were designing for. Then we had to design a remote control that would help him with his everyday pirate life. The children came up with some fantastic ideas including a remote to find treasure, one to protect them from sharks, one to alert them when other pirates are near and one to help calm him down when he gets angry.
