As part of our learning about forces, 6 Blue have been investigating why different sizes of parachutes descend at different speeds. We connected our understanding to the work of Sir Isaac Newton, who discovered that the force of gravity exits between all objects (though we only notice it when one of the objects is really large!). We came to the conclusion that a type of friction called air resistance slows objects down, particularly those with larger surface areas such as parachutes. Well done everyone!
Lots of the 6 Blue children have been busy creating their School Council manifestos this week. The prospective candidates outlined their ideas to improve our school to the rest of the class and voting will begin shortly. Good luck everyone!
Hebburn Lakes’ Upper Key Stage Two Boys’ Football Team took part in this afternoon’s South Tyneside Primary Football Champions’ League Finals at Mariner’s Park in Jarrow.
We are delighted to report that the team achieved a very creditable 3rd-placed finish, only conceding one goal across the seven matches that were played.
Having won our first five games, it all came down to two very close fixtures against Cleadon Academy and St.Aloysius, where a 0-0 draw and a last-minute 1-0 defeat cost the team the chance to be crowned champions.
Nevertheless, we couldn’t be prouder of the team and the journey that the boys have been on this season. It wasn’t to be our year, but we’ll be back in 2023/24. Well done boys on an absolutely fantastic season of high-quality football in which you have come so very close to being named the best team in South Tyneside.
Thanks also to Mr Todd for his valuable support this season.
Year 6 completed their final SATs today and what better way to reward the children’s herculean efforts than with a pizza party!
We are exceptionally proud of the children and it was lovely to see their surprised faces when the pizzas arrived!
Well done everyone!
Our Upper Key Stage Two Boys’ Football Team completed their final league fixtures this week and after a tense evening of play, victory over a talented St. Matthew’s team confirmed our position as league winners for this season. This represents a fantastic achievement for the boys and we couldn’t be prouder of them. The team now qualifies for the Champions’ League event later in the year. We would also like to offer our commiserations to the players from St. Matthew’s who came very close to pipping us at the post. It would have been nice for both teams to have gone through but it was Hebburn Lakes who inched home in the end. Well done to all of the players from schools across the borough who have represented their schools this season and special thanks also to Mr Todd for his support with our team.
