Year 4 Showing Resilience in Jigsaw.

15th February 2023L Davison

In Jigsaw, we have been learning about how to deal with difficult situations. Whilst it is always wonderful to achieve our dreams, it is not always possible. We learned that it is important to be resilient and show a positive attitude when facing disappointment. As part of the challenge  we entered the ‘Funniest Potato Competition’, working as part of a team, designing and creating our funny potato.

Here’s what we achieved!

Year 4’s Rocking Assembly

15th February 2023L Davison

This morning, Year 4 took to the stage to show off all that they have learned about rocks and fossils during their ‘Rocky the Findasaur’ theme. They learned about different types of rocks and soils and how they make up the layers of the Earth. They also learned about the pioneer, Mary Anning and her incredible discovery of the ichthyosaur fossil. She led the way not just for paleontologists but for the recognition of women as scientists too.

.

Well done Year 4 you did a fantastic job!

Year 4 Super Script Writers.

3rd February 2023L Davison

This week in English, we have been learning how to write a script. First, we looked at some examples of scripts to find the features and then compared them to our regular reading book. This helped us to understand what a script looks like and how we should present our own.

Then, we acted out a scene from our class text, Leon and The Place Between. This helped us to work out what stage directions we needed to add to our script.

Finally we began to write. We used all of the skills that we had learned over the week and applied them to our own scripts.

Exciting Erosions

17th January 2023L Davison

In science this week, Year 4 looked at the effect of the sea on Marsden rock. We learned about how erosion effects the land and saw how our coastline is constantly changing. To experience how this happens, we used soil to represent the land and sand to represent the cliffs and the beach, we then pored water over the land and saw how easily it got washed away.

We even saw videos of the landslide at Marsden in 2021 and the sink hole that has appeared in the last few years.

4 Red Master Chef – Africa!

23rd November 2022L Davison

This week, as part of our Come Fly With Me: Africa theme, we made some delicious African inspired cous cous and a refreshing mango and banana smoothie to wash it down.

Almost all of us LOVED the smoothie, however the cous-cous got mixed reviews. Some of us may have over done it with the vinegar!

Mindfulness Monday

13th October 2022L Davison

To celebrate World Mental Health day on Monday, Year 4 took some “me time”. In between making our DT projects, we took some time to relax. We had a 5 minute meditation with some lovely soothing music using Tibetan singing bowls and also did some mindfulness colouring and drawing.

A communication device for an evil genius.

13th October 2022L Davison

On Monday, after our relaxing meditation, we set our minds to creating a communication device for an evil genius. We used our science skills to create an electrical circuit and our DT design skills to plan our masterpiece! Our intention was to communicate with our loyal minions using Morse code, which was used during World War I and II to communicate in secret.

Experience It! It’s Electrifying!

13th May 2022L Davison

5 Blue’s Science and DT lesson sent them down an electrifying route this week, when they experienced making circuits.

Miss Davison was extremely mean, when she handed 5 Blue a pack of broken electrical parts and simply said, “Make it work!”

All of 5 Blue rose to the challenge and managed to make, bulbs light, motors spin and buzzers buzz. They even discovered what happens when you reverse the flow of electrical current.
