We have been learning about the importance of solar power and how we can use it to help with our daily lives. We decided to make a solar oven and cook biscuits. We followed the instructions very carefully and worked well as part of a team. We put our ovens in the sun and waited for our chocolate topping to melt. The chocolate had started to melt and we discussed that if it had been in the sun all day it would have worked even better. They tasted delicious!
During RE day we have been looking at the Christian celebration surrounding a childs birth. We learned about what special items are used during a baptism, who attends and their role and where they go to hold a baptism. We then took turns in baptising our own baby and said the words ‘In the name of the Father, Son, and the holy spirit’ as we used the blessed water. We found out that that Christians use water as a symbol of new rebirth as it represents washing away any sins.
In our Learning Means the World theme of ‘Light Up The World’ we have been looking at what objects and materials give us light. We looked at a selection of pictures then worked together to decide if they give us a natural light or a man made light. We the looked at using shadows and shading in our art lesson and created some lovely pictures using these light and dark effects.
Mrs Thomas asked the children for some ideas for activities that could be included in Breakfast Club. They went away to chat to their friends and collated some lists. We then came back together, discussed and finalised a wish list for Mrs Moody. The new items have arrived and will be rolled out into Breakfast Club after half term!
In maths this week we are looking at arrays and how they can help us with our group counting. We looked at the rows and columns and how we can use these to write a number sentence. We had a selection of arrays and worked together to write the column addition and the row addition.
In our Learning Means The World theme, ‘Light Up The World’ we have been looking at the sun and creating leaflets and posters of the rules we need to follow in order to be safe when we are out in the sun. We have found out that suncream, glasses, hat and t-shirts are very important. We then designed our own split pin lever card to show the sun and how we keep ourselves safe
.
We took part in our sponsored circuit morning with our special visitor Paralympian Lucy Turner. We did spotty dogs, mountain climbers, press ups and star jumps. We completed our circuits in approximately 7 minutes and we were brilliant. We have collected lots of money to go towards buying new sports equipment for our school. We are so proud of ourselves!
