This week in PE, we have been learning about different ways to run and jump. We played a lovely game called “Here come the sharks!” where the children had to run away from the sharks to avoid being caught. We also did a jumping carousel, where the children practiced how to jump in different ways. They did star jumps, tuck jumps, pencil jumps and loads more! We were exhausted at the end of it!
In Learning Means the World we have been looking at weight and measurement in our DT/Maths aspect of the curriculum, so we decided to make cookies like Little Red Riding hood did to take to her grandma. We looked at all the ingredients needed, followed a recipe and weighed and measured the correct amounts to make the cookies before mixing, kneading and cooking. We finally ate them and the general consensus was that they were delicious.
Today in 1 Blue, we have been looking at fairytales as a part of our Learning Means The World Theme. We read the story of Little Red Riding Hood and we decided to get our aprons ready in order to bake Grandma’s cookies like in the story. We had a go at weighing out the ingredients, mixing them together and then we cut out our own cookies. We can’t wait to taste them!

Today in 1 Red we had our first PE session, we focused on running and jumping and what it entails to run and jump safely and correctly. We practiced lots and showed our moves to our friends and in turn we ere able to say how we could improve to make our movements better. We learnt that exercise and fitness helps us to grow, be strong, get our heart beating and to be healthy.
Today in 1 Red we have been scientists in LMTW focusing on life cycles of various things. We mainly focused on the life cycle of the frog today and discussed the changes frogs goo t through. We used story stones, jigsaws and pictures to order the life cycle and described what happens at each stage.
Today in 1 Red we had our first music lesson. We looked at various musical instruments and played each one to see what sound they each made. Today’s lesson was focused on pitch and tone where the children were given an instruction and they had to follow them using the instrument. We then sang some familiar songs and played the instruments. Great fun was had by all.
1 Red came back after the summer break all recharged and ready to face year one with determination and true grit. We have worked hard in the first week to familiarise ourselves with the year one indoor and outdoor provision. We have focused on our new routines, expectations and challenges that lie ahead of us. All in all we have made a great start and are looking forward to the school year ahead!
