This week we have been looking at Roman pottery and mosaics in our Learning Means the World theme “You’re Not Invited”. The children have made some fabulous Roman slab pots using clay and different tools and created some fantastic mosaics are using an IT program. We are so happy how they have turned out!
What a week we’ve had in 5 Blue . As part of our Learning Means The World theme, ‘In your Element’ we have been learning all about tectonic plates, earthquakes and most excitingly volcanos. We have learnt how the earths surface is made up and how the movement of tectonic plates can cause the planet to react in different ways.
we have created a our very own volcanos and with the help of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda created our own eruptions. As you can see from our pictures we have had a lot of fun.
We would just like to say a great big thank you to all our parents and careers who took the time to join us for our parents workshop this week. It was lovely to see so many of you! I know the children loved having you here to share some of our ideas and activities around activities.
As part of our ‘ Mission Control’ theme we have been looking at the movement of the Earth and how this can affect where the sun is positioned in the sky. We have also investigated how the time of day can change the length of our shadows.
What a great day we have all had! We’ve done everything from building dens, cooked up a storm in the mud kitchen, completed Lego challenges and built champion sandcastles. We’ll sleep well tonight ( and I don’t just mean the children!)
I
What a day!
As part of our ‘Out and About’ theme, that we start next week, we headed to Gibside, National Trust. We had a day of den building, orienteering, walking through the forest and up too many hills to count!! We even had enough energy to play at ,Strawberry Castle play area. We loved every second but the den building was a firm favourite. We can’t wait to go back again.
Today we were lucky enough to have a truly memorable visit from the author Stuart Reid. He read from his books and we helped him to reenact his favourite ( but disgusting !) parts. I think we have all been inspired to follow our passions and write about what makes us happy and makes us laugh!
As part of this terms theme’ Under the Canopy’ we have been doing some observational drawing. As you can see they are just amazing!
Today we have been learning all about the different parts of a plant and their jobs. We looked at a Lilly and cut it up to be able to see inside and this helped us to understand how it worked.
We have been taking full advantage of the sunshine today and have been enjoying all our OPAL areas. As you can see we have had an amazing time!
