On Monday, in RE 4 Red looked at how Christians believe that Jesus is the light of the world. We learned that this metaphor is used because Jesus lights a path for Christians, it is also a symbol of hope and warmth.
As part of this, Year 4 developed their previous skills of making stained glass windows, this time adding symbols of light. Take a Look.
This week in music, Year 4 have been looking at call and response drumming, as part of our Africa theme.
We learned that Africans often used music as a form of communication, especially across different tribes, where they may speak a different language.
As part of our ‘Lightning Speed’ theme, Year 4 have been designing a communication device for an evil genius.
Our first task was to research all the different products on the market at the moment, then design our own product. After that, we needed to evaluate our work and make decisions on what we could improve and what was the best parts of our design.
This week in Year 4, we had lots of fun in our problem-solving lesson. We gave every letter of the alphabet a number and then had many challenges to complete such as finding the value of different words. We have put a copy of the questions on this post for you to enjoy too!
As part of our LMTW theme ‘Picture our Planet’, we researched four of the highland games, shotput, caber toss, hammer throw and tug ‘o’ war. We found out about the games’ history, the rules and how to play. Then we taught each other how to play the different games.
We had so much fun taking part in the games, bring on sports day!
This week as part of our Picture Our Planet Theme, the children in 4 Red have been learning all about Romero Britto, a Brazilian pop artist.
First we looked at Romero Britto and his work. We had a class critique, saying what we thought about his pieces of art. Then we looked at other famous Pop Artists and their work and compared their different styles.
After coming up with some different designs in our sketch books, it was time to recreate some of his work using textiles and creating a collage.
Here’s how it turned out.
Isn’t it fantastic?
To celebrate the King’s Coronation we made celebration tiles as a keepsake to mark the occasion. Aren’t our designs beautiful?
Welcome to The Viking Factor.
4 Red took part in a battle motto competition, where they had to make up an intimidating war chant. We looked at the Maori Hakka and the Icelandic battle chants to inspire our brutal battle performances.
Today, Year 4 took part in the Little Inventors Competition. We had great fun designing a wind powered invention, that would solve a problem, make something better or just be really fun.
To help us with our ideas we had a wind powered hovercraft race, where we had to make a hovercraft from a balloon, a bottle cap, a cd and some blue-tac.
We have had a fantastic day!
