2 Red’s Classroom Display

13th January 2023L Phillips

Year 2’s new theme in Learning Means the World is all about Paddington’s Passport. After discovering that Paddington was born in Peru we decided to do some research about this South American country that none of us have visited.

2 Red worked as a team to create their very own display about Peru and it’s capital city Lima. It’s full of interesting facts and photographs and currently takes pride of place on our wall.

Year 2’s Table Manners

14th December 2022L Phillips

To complete our Zero to Hero theme which was all based on culture, Year 2 found out about different eating and drinking habits from around the world. Our different responses to burping, slurping and left over food created some great discussions. Our curiosity in the countries mentioned prompted us to find out more using our atlases.

Alternative Art in 2 Red

18th November 2022L Phillips

Our Zero to Hero theme in Year 2 introduced us to the artist Christy Brown.

We learned about how Christy found it difficult to use and control movements in his arms and hands due to his cerebral palsy, therefore he had to find an alternative way to produce his art. We talked about how inspirational this was as he never gave up on his dreams to be an artist, showed resilience and like a true Pathfinder he ‘Found A Way’.

Like Christy Brown, we tried using our feet to create some art. This proved quite difficult and we started to gain an understanding of how Christy may have felt, as well as the determination he needed to become the brilliant artist he was.

And the award goes to… 2 Red!

11th October 2022L Phillips

This week in our Learning Means the World theme, Inter-Nation Media Station, we found out more about the famous rap star, Top Dollar. We got into character, practising our coolest walk around the room before collecting the music award for Best New Song.

We took inspiration for our thank you speech from clips of Ed Sheeran, Emma Watson and Malala Yousafzai, before performing these speeches for our audience.

Year 2’s Four Seasons Project – Autumn Awesomeness!

11th October 2022L Phillips

This week Year 2 began their journey on their Four Seasons Project. This project will take a full year to complete as we use our surroundings and times of year to collect research, evidence and experiences.

We named our first task… Autumn Awesomeness!

On our Autumn walk around our school grounds we collected deciduous and evergreen leaves as evidence of the seasonal changes before working in teams to create brilliant natural art.

2 Red T-shirt Designers

27th September 2022L Phillips

In our new Learning Means the World theme, Inter-Nation Media Station, we have been introduced to some new characters. We used clues about famous rap star Top Dollar and his Nan to design a t-shirt for Nan’s big day out with her grandson.

We thought about her likes and dislikes, planned and designed her outfit before producing our final pieces.

Take a look at our creations!

Tree-mendous Thurston!

30th June 2022L Phillips

Last week we had a fantastic time in Thurston and made memories to last a lifetime!

After being allocated our teams for the week which included Langdale, Yewdale, Eskdale and Grizedale, each group set out on their adventures. Our days were jam packed with activities including ghyll scrambling, abseiling, hiking, canoeing, paddle boarding, tree climbing, cave exploration and jumping from the jetty. Each night was concluded with some well deserved time to relax and socialise in the Barn.

The children were a credit to the school, showed true determination and resilience and most importantly have had fantastic experiences that will stay with them.
