We had an assembly with Reverend Ian from St John’s church. Today he talked to the children about break time. He recalled a story from the New Testament regarding the day of Sabbath. He talked about how the day of Sabbath is a day of rest, time to recharge and how beneficial it is. He then discussed whether we should also do jobs, relating it to Jesus helping people on the Sabbath day. We talked about Jesus healing people and helping others. How we could also help people during our breaks? The children came up with some fabulous ideas of how we can help each other during our breaks. Suggestions such as helping people who are lonely by playing with them, if someone is hurt then make sure they are ok or get them some help, let people join in with games or agree to play a few different games so everyone gets to choose their own ideas. We then had a school prayer and sang a song.

As part of our new text, ‘Leon and The Place Between’ the children have enjoyed completing some drama based activities. As you can see, they fully embraced the challenge.
A fabulous first week back in Reception! Our new theme is ‘Ticket to Ride’ and we have been learning about different reasons why we would use a ticket. We’ve looked at lots of the different tickets children have brought in, designed our own and even had a hunt for golden tickets! We’ve drawn and built transport, used our maths skills and so much more! ⭐️❤️
1 Red have returned to school after the Christmas break very keen and eager to learn. In maths the children have working on place value within 20 and have been playing independently with a range of resources to support their learning. In Learning Means the World our new theme is ‘Never Eat Shredded Wheat.’ We have been using a compass to plot and navigate points around the world and looking at the seven different continents and the countries within each one. We have used lots of role play to support our learning in both LMTW and English around the theme of pirates. The children have really enjoyed this aspect of learning and are linking it to other aspects of the curriculum and within their independent work. In PE we are exploring dance using our bodies to embrace rhythm and movement.
Today in our geography lesson, we looked at the 7 continents and the 5 oceans. We learned two songs to help us remember all of the continents and oceans. We then were able to identify where the continents are on the map and as a challenge, we located the oceans. If you ask us, we will be able to sing you our songs!

Today was our final assembly of the Autumn term and we celebrated in true Hebburn Lakes fashion. We commended all of our amazing children on their fantastic attendance; we sang our favourite Christmas songs and Mrs Moody awarded a child from each class a Headteacher’s award for exceptional achievements across the term. We finished with saying a fond farewell to the wonderful Mrs Barrett, who is leaving us to enjoy her retirement after 25 years of service in the school community. We will miss her lots but wish her well for the future.
