We Will Remember Them

10th November 2023C Campbell

Mrs Moody held a special assembly today ahead of Remembrance Day this weekend on Saturday 11th November. Remembrance Day marks the day that World War One ended, at the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918. The children learned about why poppies are such an important part of our tributes to those lost in battle and we also observed a period of silence to respect those affected by wars past and present. A wreath of remembrance will also be kindly left at the war memorial in Hebburn on behalf of Hebburn Lakes Primary School by Mrs Richardson.

Come Fly With Me Asia! Reception are off to visit India!

10th November 2023K Richardson

We have started our new Learning Means The World theme,  Come Fly With Me Asia. First we are visiting India. We have looked at some Indian artefacts. We talked about the Sagan envelopes which people gave money in. We have been trying on Lengha dresses and some people have been given a Bindi. Everyone was given the opportunity for a Tikka (religious red dot) on their forehead and we have been saying ‘Namaste’ hello and ‘Shukriah’ thank you. Mrs Sikka also blessed us with some water.  The children also learned about the celebration Raksha Bandhan, we then made some bracelets. Ask the children to tell you about the celebration 🇮🇳⭐️

Supporting children’s health this winter

8th November 2023h teacher

The North East and North Cumbria Child Health and Wellbeing Network have developed a new Healthier Together website and app to support their work to reduce pressures experienced within the healthcare system this winter and to offer trusted NHS advice to parents/corers when their baby or child is unwell.

The website is full of valuable advice and has a link for parents to download the app.

Review of Physiotherapy and Occupational Services in South Tyneside.

27th October 2023J Donkin

Dear Community,

This is just a quick post to update you about a recent review of Physiotherapy and Occupational Services in South Tyneside.

Schools across South Tyneside have received a letter from South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS foundation Trust informing schools that, following a review of services, as from 1st November 2023 the Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy teams based at Palmer Community Hospital, will no-longer be accepting referrals for the Developmental Coordination Disorder pathway directly from schools.

An intervention pack has been developed, which is to be sent to schools to support their pupils in the identification of difficulties with suggestions of appropriate support, guidance and interventions.

If, following school intervention further and ongoing concerns continue, they are advising that these are discussed with parents whom can seek a referral to the therapy teams via their GP/ other health care professional e.g. school nurse.

On receipt of a referral, Children and Young people will be allocated a direct intervention programme with the appropriate therapy team. If following this intervention DCD is indicated, an onward referral into the DCD pathway will then be processed.

Direct referrals into the DCD pathway will now only be accepted either via Paediatrician, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.

Children and young people who have been accepted onto the DCD pathway prior to 1.11.23 will continue along the previous process.

If you have any concerns about this change in process, please contact your GP.

Many thanks

Jo Donkin

Reception Harvest festival using our senses!

24th October 2023K Richardson

As part of our Learning Means The World theme, ‘Happy to be me,’ we have been using our senses. We investigated some fruit and vegetables, then we decided to make some soup. We also talked about the Harvest festival and how we celebrate crops that are gathered from the fields and all the foods we eat. We also talked about how foods can be shared within the local community. This afternoon we tasted our soup, it was delicious! A big well done to children who weren’t sure if they would like the soup but gave it a try 🥕🧅🥦🫑
