Today in LMTW .Come Fly with me Arctic Circle’ 1 Red focused on the subject of Art. The children had built ‘inukshuks’ (a structure of rough stones stacked in the form of a human figure, traditionally used by Inuit people as a landmark or commemorative sign). The figure of the inukshuk is omnipresent in Inuit tradition. The children used teamwork to work together to make wonderful representations.
Nursery invited parents for a Stay and Play session. We showed off our ‘Wake-Up Shake-Up dance and our welcome song, before showing the parents some of the activities that we do in our maths sessions. The children loved showing off our nursery to their parents and the parents enjoyed finding out more about what their children do when they are at nursery.
The children explored what life was like during the early days of the Benin Kingdom. They explored what it would be like to trade items with other members of the community. After realising that trading in small communities would be difficult, the children began to trade with other groups in the class. They understood that this was how small villages grew into large settlements like the Benin Kingdom did.
We have been looking at the artist Christy Brown. We found out that he had Cerebral Palsy and that his only working limb was his left leg. He created his fantastic drawings with his left foot. We were so inspired that we decided to have a go ourselves and we soon found out that it was harder than we thought it was going to be. Christy Brown is certainly a hero!
As part of ‘anti-bullying week’, we have been learning about what it means to be respectful to others. The children came up with lots of mature and sensible answers, which they recorded and used to create a class ‘chain of respect’. Well done Year 4.
2 Red showed true perseverance and determination during Science this week.
They took a leaf out of Thomas Edison’s book and investigated how to build a complete circuit. After lots of trial and error, problem solving, and teamwork, they all managed to successfully complete the circuit and light up the bulb.
They talked like scientists throughout the lesson asking ‘what if…’ questions, making predictions and drawing conclusions.
Over the last week we have been looking at all the different components of a circuit, bulbs, batteries, wires and switches. Today we used our knowledge to create a working circuit. We used the crocodile clips to attach our components and watched what happened when the circuit was broken. We created a simple circuit and then drew a technically correct drawing using the correct symbols for each component.
This week in Reception we have been using our knowledge of circles and triangles to sort and create shape pictures. We used lots of positional language as we made our way round the obstacle course. We have been working on our Sounds Write skills and made lots of fabulous creations!
This half term, we have Mrs Smith teaching us French. Our topic is ‘Ma Famille’, my family. This week, we went through family members and practised how to say them and write them.

For Anti-Bullying Week, we discussed how we can show respect to each other and around the school. On coloured strips of paper, we wrote all the possible ways we could show respect and created a chain of respect. Then, we created respect posters, thinking about all the different ways we can show respect in our school.
