Today we had the opportunity to take part in a renewable energy windfarm workshop in conjunction with Doggerbanks Windfarms and Science Buddies. The children learned about the important role windfarms play in our region and learned how they work. The children even designed and created their own wind turbines and looked at which designs would help to generate the most energy.
Today in our computing lesson, we have been looking at how to independently log onto a school Chromebook. We used our username and password to log on and then we went onto the canvas app to create our “masterpieces”. We explored canvas and learned how to change the colour, change the utensil; and make the lines bigger and smaller. We were so proud of our work as you can see!
Our amazing choir went over to Hebburn Comprehensive school yesterday evening to take part in a concert to gather schools together for a night of performing. They have worked so hard to work together to get their songs perfected and that they did! Last night, I witnessed courage, bravery and beautiful singing from every child that took part, all of their hard work paid off! Myself and Miss Lugg, as well as everybody within school are very proud of them.
It was lovely to see so many talented children from other schools taking part, from orchestra’s to another school choir. We even had a performance from Hebburn Comp’s resident DJ’s!
Don’t forget our Singing Sensations show is on Monday 6th July, when our choir will be putting on their very own show for anybody who wishes to attend. Tickets are available via ParentPay or the school office if you do not have access to this.
We have been learning how to tell the time. We challenged ourselves to tell various times from O’clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and all the other 5 minute intervals of time. At first we found it tricky but we kept trying and now we are time masters.
As part of our Learning Means The World theme ‘Going Wild’ we have been looking at various pieces of African music. We found where Africa is and what sort of music is popular in African culture. We looked at the tempo, instruments used and how the music made us feel. We then worked as a team to compose our own African music.
A busy week of doubling, sharing, writing, creativity and just showing everyone how amazing they are ❤️👏🤗⭐️
This week we had a visit from Mr O the music teacher! He has shown the children how to create a rhythm and introduced reading music. They loved it and were fabulous !
In year 4 we have been learning about the tradtions and customs associated with Scotland. Lily, kindly brought in her grandfather’s regimental uniform for us to look at, while sharing some stories about his life inservice and a some history about the kilt.
What a fantastic day we had at the Stadium of Light for Sunderland’s final game of the season against Chelsea.
We were given the opportunity for three children to represent our school as flag bearers at the game…and what a day we had! We even got a wave and a “Hello!” from a very special player, close to all our hearts here at Hebburn Lakes, the one and only home grown Chrissy Rigg.
In English 1 Red have begun a new text ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’. The children had to look at the props provided before guessing who they belonged to and what the story may be about. They then wrote lists of what they could see before sharing their findings with each other. After listening to the story the children used associated vocabulary to describe the different characters that were met in the story. Some children even wrote some wonderful character descriptions of their own to describe the giant and illustrated them beautifully.
