As part of our Jubilee celebrations we our learning about ‘Jamaica’, one of the Commonwealth countries. Today we have created sunset pictures inspired by the beautiful locations in Jamaica.
2 Red are about to start some new learning in maths all about measuring. To start off our learning we became investigators. Many of us connected this back to measures we’ve seen or used while finding out about animals in our current Learning Means the World theme ‘Going Wild!’
We looked at various units of measure, what they mean and what they may be used for. We then put them into practice to play with it and experience it by using equipment to measure items around our classroom.
Don’t forget it’s our Jubilee Coffee morning in the school hall at 9am tomorrow.
Isla, who plays for Jarrow Lionesses Under 8’s, has helped her team to win the league and cup in their first season together. She has been resilient, prepared and brave when playing in every game, which are the traits we use everyday in year 3 as an adventurer.
We are very proud of you Isla, Keep it up!
6 Red have begun our new LMTW theme, Global Warning!
As part of our topic, we explored the impact of pollution, specifically ocean pollutants.
We found out that oil and chemicals make up the largest proportion of ocean pollution, however it is difficult to remove from the sea once it has been contaminated.
During our investigation, we attempted to find the most efficient method of clearing the oil from the water.
Many of us hypothesised that the sponge would work the best, as it absorbs water, however we realised that water has smaller particles than oil.
In the end, believe it or not, our result found that a pair of nylon tights that attracted the oil and successfully separated it; we discussed that due to it’s similar properties, oil is attracted to nylon!
In year 4 we have been learning about one of Brazil’s most famous artists, Romero Britto. We were inspired by his bright and colourful art work and used his ideas to create our own textiles, using material layering.
As part of our Jigsaw unit ‘relationships’ we have been learning about how to be thankful for the special people in our lives. The children enjoyed creating memory boxes, which they will fill with special memories about someone important to them.
