Dear Parent / Carer
The Department for Education (DfE) has provided grant funding to South Tyneside Council, to
co-ordinate free holiday provision for children and young people aged 5-16 years entitled to freeschool meals. The HAF programme has key objectives for children including:
ï‚· To have access to free healthy food over the school holidays
ï‚· To be more active during the school holidays
ï‚· To take part in free fun, engaging and enriching activities supporting resilience and wellbeing
ï‚· To be safe and make new friends in a sociable environment.

During the main school holidays of Easter, Summer and Christmas thousands of places can be booked ‘free of charge’ for a vast range of sport, arts/crafts, dance, and drama activities, along with family events such as bowling at The Dunes, nature activities at the Brockley Allotments and performances at The Customs House. We also have organisations that provide specific sessions for
SEND children.
All information regarding the activities on offer and how to book can be found at:
www.southtyneside.gov.uk/holidayclub and bookings for our Spring programme will go live at

Outdoor Adventurous Activities: THURSTON 2023

9th March 2023C Campbell

Year 6 are tingling with anticipation as we begin the final countdown to setting off to Thurston this year. The children will be spending a week in the beautiful Lake District National Park, on the shores of Coniston Water. Thurston offers children a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover skills and interests they never knew they had, from fell-walking to canoeing, abseiling to ghyll-scrambling and rock climbing to jetty-jumping! Our children will no doubt make very best of their time there and return with wonderful memories, increased confidence and turbo-charged resilience to carry forward into secondary school. Good luck everyone and most importantly, enjoy the flapjack! Well done also to Keavy and Evie in 6 Blue who have created a celebratory sketch of the mountains and lakes.

6 Blue’s ‘Place the Pen’ PE Challenge!

9th March 2023C Campbell

6 Blue have been enjoying our short orienteering and problem-solving PE unit so far this half-term. The wintry weather forced us inside today, so we completed the next team challenge which was ‘Place the Pen!’ Working in small groups, the children had to devise a strategy to work together in order to carefully place a felt-tip pen as far as possible away from a line, without throwing or dropping it. This involved conversations about anchors, pivots and transfer of weight. The most successful teams soon discovered that it was more effective to place the shortest team member at the front of the group. Well done to Jack’s team who placed a perfectly-balanced pen at a distance of 1.29m!

Mental Health Week 2023

9th February 2023N Fada

The theme of this Years Mental Health Week is ‘Let’s Connect’. Connection is vital for our wellbeing.  Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connections and Miss Smith from the Healthy Minds Team came into school to today and delivered and assembly to encourage our children (and staff) to connect with others in healthy, rewarding, and meaningful ways.

To celebrate Mental Health Week in school and to raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental health we have completed lots of different activities in class through out the week.
