Ian, from St John’s Church in Hebburn, came to visit us for a special assembly to discuss how we are all special in different ways; how to think about each others feelings and respect each other at all times. We had a lovely sing and a dance together.
This week the children had a fantastic opportunity to take part in R.E workshops based around the Indian festival Lights ‘Diwali’. Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and New Year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Kalpesh from K’z Dance Entertainment Ltd taught all the children some traditional Bollywood Indian dances and discussed with them the meaning of the Diwali festival and taught them the story of Rama and Sita. The children ended their workshops with a traditional Diwali dance using sticks (Dhandhiya). The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and displayed some fantastic moves.
This week the children had a fantastic opportunity to take part in R.E workshops based around the Indian festival of colour, ‘Holi’. Kalpesh from K’z Dance Entertainment Ltd taught all the children some traditional Indian dances and discussed with them the meaning of the Holi festival. At the end of the day the whole school came together and performed the dances taught earlier in the day, the children and staff had some wonderful moves! At the end of the performance everyone took part in throwing colourful dyes at one another to celebrate Holi, just like it is carried out in India.
The children in Reception decided they wanted to design and make their own Gym in our outdoor area. They added the appropriate equipment to help them get fit and set up a reception area with each child given their own membership card to gain entry each day. Today was the official opening and we had great fun, the children will definitely benefit both physically and mentally.
