24th October 2024N Sikka

During the past two weeks in Year One we have been doing lots of work around the Julia Donaldson story ‘Room on the Broom. They have definitely enjoyed it and had lots of fun along the way.

Yum! Yum! Yum!

20th September 2024N Sikka

In 1 Red this week we listened to the story of Little Red Riding Hood as part our LMTW ‘Happily Ever After’. As part of the Design and Technology element mixed with a little bit of Maths we made some cookies like the ones Red Riding took to her Grandma. First we looked at the ingredients, then measured them appropriately before rolling and cutting out the cookies. Next we placed them in the oven before finally eating them. The final consensus was that they were delicious!

Sports Circuit Success!!

1st May 2024N Sikka

Today we took part in our ‘sponsored sports circuits’ in collaboration with ‘Sports for Schools’. The children were all extremely motivated and willing to have a go which made the whole event a huge success. Lucy and Chris who carried out the event commented on how amazing and committed the children were and that they were a credit to the whole school. The session was finished off with question and answer style assembly where the children found out all about Lucy’s path to becoming a Paralympian. The message from Lucy was ‘you can achieve your dreams if you just give 100% to all you do’. Well done Hebburn Lakes!

Yum! Yum! Yum!

26th April 2024N Sikka

In Drawing Club this week the children in reception have been focusing on the story of ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’. We looked at all of the horrible fillings that were added to the sandwich during the story. The children wanted to make their own sandwiches using fillings of their choice and discussed how they tasted. This was all after Mrs Sikka made a disgusting sandwich of sand and mud to eat. The children were horrified!
We linked this all to our LMTW theme ‘Food Glorious Food’.

Emergency, Emergency, dial 999!!

16th February 2024N Sikka

As part of our Learning Means the World Theme ‘Help is At Hand’, we have been looking at the Emergency Services and the important jobs that they do to help us. We have been very fortunate to have 2 parents come into school this week and talk about their job within the emergency services. Oliver’s dad works for the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Sterling’s mum works in Accident and Emergency in a hospital. They both support the Police, Ambulance and Fire Services in their roles. The children asked lots of questions about their jobs and found out some wonderful information. They even got a chance to role play with some of the things that were brought in.
