This week as part of Diversity week we have been looking at the many variations of ‘Family’. We decided that a family show love, support and care for each other and we looked at all the different types of family and how they are the same as ours and how they are different . We concluded that no matter their differences a ‘Family’ is important to our mental well being.
This week is School Diversity Week. In Reception we have been celebrating our differences. We drew rainbow people, created rainbow bunting and also drew around our friends outside and made them into rainbows with chalk.
We had a super ‘Career’s Day’ on Wednesday! We spent the day learning about all the different professions and jobs people do. During the morning, we learnt about TV and video marketing and then we tried on some NHS scrubs. In afternoon, we spoke to a few people about the jobs they do. Later on, we had a visit from Tracey, an author, who wrote a book called Frogsby. During the session, we listened to how the inspiration of the story came about and listened to the story being read. Then, we produced our own book characters. We had an awesome day!
In PE, we practised our underarm and overarm throws with our PE coach.
Well done to Angelina and Bella who are this week’s winners of our Maths Problem Of The Week! Angelina used her reasoning skills to correctly identify the correct coin and Bella correctly identified a right angle from the clues. Well done girls and enjoy your pencils!

This morning School Council joined in with the assembly. In their rolls as OPAL ambassadors they talked about all of the positive and amazing things they have seen or been involved in since OPAL started. They also reminded their friends how we need to use the equipment properly. They were amazing!
This week in maths we have been sharing and grouping. The children have done a fabulous job. They have problem solved, explained their reasons and ensured all groups are equal. They also shared sweets between themselves and their friends, again using their problem solving and reasoning skills throughout. Of course they ate the sweets after! Ask them to show you their skills at home.
Yesterday was ‘Careers Day’
Reception had two visitors. A local author and illustrator who read two of her stories to the children and an occupational therapist, who talked about her job and how she helps children. It was a fabulous experience for them. Ask the children all about it!
This week in PE, we practised our triple jump, which consisted of hopping, stepping and jumping with two feet. Then, we practised relay races in teams.
It is lovely to be able to share news about our children’s achievements out-of-school and Alfie in 6 Blue has had some brilliant football achievements to shout about. Alfie plays as goalkeeper for Hebburn Town Under 11s and his team has enjoyed a very successful season, resulting in promotion this year. Alfie was also awarded ‘Man-of-the-match’ in the last game of the season and he also won ‘Save-of-the-season’ too! What a fantastic achievement Alfie and keep up the brilliant work – well done to Hebburn Town Under 11s too!
