Key Community Bus Route

7th December 2023h teacher

The Key community Bus will be stopping at a range of venues acxross South Tyneside.

Downstairs there will be a shop selling good quality fresh fruit and vegetables, packet, tinned, and non perishable food and non-food and hygiene items, baby wipes, milk and nappies for very low prices in the hope of helping individuals/families money to go further, reduce waste and lower the need for the number of people attending food banks which is at an all time high. All money made from this project feeds back into the charity and food bank we run in South Shields.

Upstairs there is seating areas where we can offer advice and direct/refer individuals to relevant interventive services.  We hope to have some of these services available on board to offer advice and are hoping to have the likes of welfare rights, Drug and alcohol services among others. The bus has an awning and out door seating and offers tea and coffee for those who would just like to come along and have a chat.

The bus is for absolutely anyone to use and is not restricted to those on benefits, it is for the whole community.

We currently offer free school uniform and winter coats free of charge upstairs on the bus and have a pop up Christmas shop with toys and Christmas items at very reduced prices.

7 Blue Art-Banksy Style!

1st December 2023N Fada

7 Blue have been learning about the famous graffiti artist Banksy, who is one of Britain’s most influential modern day artists.

We looked at lots of examples of Banksy’s work and the children tried to work out the hidden meaning behind his work.

We decided to create our own graffiti art in the style of Banksy linked to our LMTW theme ‘Cry Freedom’.

The children began by creating lots of words and images linked to slavery in their sketch books.  Once they decided which image they wanted to use they then made a stencil on card which they used to create their final piece before adding their chosen word or phrase onto their graffiti art.

Wellbeing Garden

28th November 2023N Fada

To ensure well-being for all is promoted within our school we are planning to develop a wellbeing garden.

With the support of a local company, Willoby Roc’s, we have secured some funding from The Bupa Foundation to help us develop this area.  Once it is fully developed, the children will be able to participate in lots of outdoor activities that will contribute to their overall well-being.

Last week the school council met to share their ideas for this area.  Here is a list of some of the things they would like:

  • A reading area
  • Seats made from logs
  • A water play area
  • A mud Kitchen
  • Den building
  • A music area
  • A drawing area (mud painting)
  • A story telling and reading area
  • Equipment to carry out bug hunts to spot wildlife and scavenger hunts linked to seasons.
  • Games made from natural materials such as tic tac toe
  • A shaded area
  • An entrance to the garden with a sign naming the area
  • An area to grow flowers and herbs

We will try to include as many of their ideas as we can when the work begins after Christmas. We aim to have all the work on this area completed by April and will keep you updated with our progress.
