Sports Circuit Success!!

1st May 2024N Sikka

Today we took part in our ‘sponsored sports circuits’ in collaboration with ‘Sports for Schools’. The children were all extremely motivated and willing to have a go which made the whole event a huge success. Lucy and Chris who carried out the event commented on how amazing and committed the children were and that they were a credit to the whole school. The session was finished off with question and answer style assembly where the children found out all about Lucy’s path to becoming a Paralympian. The message from Lucy was ‘you can achieve your dreams if you just give 100% to all you do’. Well done Hebburn Lakes!

2 Red begin Going Wild!

30th April 2024L Phillips

This week Year 2 have started their new Learning Means the World theme, Going Wild!

To start our science based theme we collected photographs of our pets. We used guidance from the RSPCA to create posters of ‘How to looks after pets’.

The children showed just how knowledgeable and caring they are, and produced brilliant, eye-catching posters, full of good advice for pet owners.

Chopwell Woods!

30th April 2024Leah Hockings

Year 5 were lucky enough to visit Chopwell Woods last week as part of their enrichment visit. We definitely took on the role of “I’m a survivor” in our activities throughout the day, which really focused on our survival skills, communication skills and teamwork.

We enjoyed taking part in an immersive learning experience, that involved choosing 3 “survival” items from a bag which would help us survive in the woods. The children came up with some amazing reasons as to why they chose each item; demonstrating real survival instincts.

Year 5 also enjoyed creating an S.O.S signal that could be seen from the sky in a rescue helicopter, using natural materials in the environment around them. We also took part in a fun game in which we had to select items from a bag and decide whether they were “safe” to eat or “poisonous” based on things we would find in the woods around us. Luckily we were not made to eat any conkers, berries or toads!

Finally, the children worked in teams to build a sturdy den as a shelter, using materials found on the forest floor and some materials provided. The children blew us away with how well they worked as a team, communicating with each other and demonstrating real “navigator” qualities. Year 5 were an absolute pleasure to take on this visit, their manners and behaviour was absolutely impeccable and were commented on multiple occasions, they made us exceptionally proud! They showed real resilience and a can do attitude all day throughout their activities, it’s safe to say we had an absolutely magical and memorable day!

Can you solve this Maths problem?

26th April 2024s begum

In today’s Maths lesson, we used our problem solving skills to find different solutions to the ‘Next Door Numbers’ problem. We had to arrange number cards from 0 to 9 in a certain way so that no two consecutive numbers were next to each other horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

There were lots of different ways that we solved this problem. How many different ways can you find?

Yum! Yum! Yum!

26th April 2024N Sikka

In Drawing Club this week the children in reception have been focusing on the story of ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’. We looked at all of the horrible fillings that were added to the sandwich during the story. The children wanted to make their own sandwiches using fillings of their choice and discussed how they tasted. This was all after Mrs Sikka made a disgusting sandwich of sand and mud to eat. The children were horrified!
We linked this all to our LMTW theme ‘Food Glorious Food’.

Williby Rocs!

23rd April 2024Leah Hockings

Year 5 had the pleasure of welcoming Williby Roc’s into school; taking part in lots of outdoor activities in our wonderful well-being garden!

We enjoyed using our imagination making a fairy garden and fairy houses, using logs and natural resources to decorate. We developed our creative side by decorating signs for our well-being garden using acrylic paints to make our outdoor learning space more inviting and colourful. We also used our investigation skills to carry out a scavenger bug hunt, using scientific tools and investigation equipment to look closely at the insects within our garden.

“There is no such thing as bad weather when playing outdoors, just bad clothing”.

Muddy shoes, rosy cheeks, cold noses but happy faces all around!
