A visit to Reception from a local author!

20th April 2023K Richardson

Today we had a very special visit. One of our parents came into school to talk to the children about a storybook she has written. It is called ‘The Little Falcon’. It is a very special story that is based on her son. In the story the bird cannot fly and is supported by Jodi. Jodi is a fantastic lady who runs marathons etc for Toby and sends him the medals. Toby, the author’s son, has cerebral palsy and we talked about some of the equipment that he uses to support him so he can be included and involved in so many activities. It was a fabulous afternoon and the children were able to talk about similarities, differences and why it is so important to be a good friend and look out for each other. There is a photo of the  QR code if you would like to buy a copy of this fabulous book 😊

A tasty treat !

9th March 2023Miss L Robinson

After reading ‘The tiger who came to tea’ in English, we decided to invite a different type of animal for tea. We thought about who to invite and made a list of things that we could have for tea. One of the suggestions was a jam sandwich. The children read and followed a set of instructions to help them make their own jam sandwiches. We wrote our own set of  instructions for others to follow.  The children said it was the best English lesson ever!

2 Red’s There’s An Alien In Your Book!

5th March 2023L Phillips

2 Red had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day!

Using ‘There’s An Alien In Your Book!’ by Tom Fletcher we completed very creative tasks such as…

  • moulding our own aliens to match the mystery description using modelling clay,
  • creating our very own game of rhyming snap using creatures from our world,
  • designing a home, family and friends for the alien
  • and finally inventing and making a space ship to help our alien to return home.

Our day ended with some out of this world science!

Reception World Book Day! We are out of this world!

3rd March 2023K Richardson

Reception had a fantastic World Book Day!

Everyone made so much effort and some amazing imagination went into some of the costumes. We decorated alien biscuits, made alien headbands, face masks and designed alien underpants!  We drew using a Youtube tutorial and also tried to dance like an alien. In our STEM session we looked at how our bodies create electricity and created rockets using effervescent vitamin tablets.  A truly fabulous day for us all.

Children’s Mental Health Week – Reception

9th February 2023K Richardson

This week in school we have been talking about children’s mental health.  We discussed how it is just as important to have a healthy mind as it is to have a healthy body. We also thought about who we should talk to if we are worried, scared, cross or upset and how it is okay to have these feelings but so important to talk to someone about it. We discussed ways to help us keep calm, relaxed and happy.  We used these strategies in class:

We gave each other compliments!

Here are some of our comments:

We are kind.
We give good cuddles.
We share with our friends.
We listen to our friends.
We make people laugh and smile.
We play with friends.
We look after everyone.

We drew using the Youtube tutorials, did some Cosmic Kids Yoga and read the story ‘The Dot’ discussing resilience and how we should not give up!

Year 4 Super Script Writers.

3rd February 2023L Davison

This week in English, we have been learning how to write a script. First, we looked at some examples of scripts to find the features and then compared them to our regular reading book. This helped us to understand what a script looks like and how we should present our own.

Then, we acted out a scene from our class text, Leon and The Place Between. This helped us to work out what stage directions we needed to add to our script.

Finally we began to write. We used all of the skills that we had learned over the week and applied them to our own scripts.
