Move over XFactor, We have the Viking Factor

29th March 2023L Davison

Welcome to The Viking Factor.

4 Red took part in a battle motto competition, where they had to make up an intimidating war chant. We looked at the Maori Hakka and the Icelandic battle chants to inspire our brutal battle performances.

Bite into a slice of Greece!

14th March 2023Ashley Clark

In Year 3, we have experienced life in Greece today by tasting lots of popular Greek foods. We tasted feta cheese, pitta bread, tzatziki, hummus and olives. We needed to be brave as some of us were nervous to try certain foods. However, we acted like true Adventurers and gave it a go! Some of us were surprised at how tasty lots of the items were!

Peace, Patience, Pottery

14th March 2023Ashley Clark

This week in our Learning Means The World Theme, Year 3 have been designing and creating their own Greek Coil Pots. This activity required lots of patience as we found it tricky to mould the clay into coils in order to construct our coil pot.

Y5- Roman day!

2nd February 2023Victoria Cartmell

Today, Year 5 have immersed ourselves into our Roman day!

We began with making our own laurel wreaths, before taste-testing some of the ‘exotic fruits’ which the wealthy emperors would have been lucky enough to have feasted upon!

Finally, we built our own catapults, using wooden lollypop sticks, elastic bands and spoons. We had a competition in the hall, to see who could fire their catapults the furthest; focusing on forces such as tension and gravity, to propel objects across a distance.

Songs About Slavery!

5th December 2022Ashley Clark

This week in Year 3, we have been learning about Harriet Tubman. Year 3 learned that Harriet saved over 60 slaves from the terrible conditions of the slave farms and transported them across the Northern boarder of Pennsylvania where slavery was illegal. She did this using songs to give the slaves instructions so that they weren’t caught by the slave catchers. We were inspired by this, so we created our own slave songs!

YEAR 6’S I HAVE A DREAM ASSEMBLY

30th November 2022C Campbell

Year 6 produced a very thoughtful assembly today to celebrate our learning within our ‘I Have a Dream’ theme.

We shared our learning about slavery, apartheid and segregation; the children also celebrated the achievements and legacy of Martin Luther King through the eyes of a child who witnessed his famous 1963 speech.

The children spoke confidently and it was clear that they have thought clearly about the important themes within this unit of work.

Thanks to all of our parents, carers and other family members who came along too – we hope you enjoyed it!

18th November 2022L Chisholm

This week we have been learning about what the Inuit people eat and how their clothes are made.  We looked at the materials they use in their every day life and created our own Inuit collage using the material that we thought was best suited for that weather.

Reception – Come Fly With Me Asia! We are off to India!

17th November 2022K Richardson

In our theme ‘Come Fly With Me Asia’ we have travelled to India. We looked at some artefacts and placed a Bindi on our foreheads. We have been trying out some Bollywood dancing and found out about the ceremony of Rakhi.  The children then made some Rakhi bracelets and we have started to make Indian flags 🇮🇳. We also investigated some of the spices used in traditional Indian foods. The children used their senses to look at, smell and taste them. We were so impressed that most children wanted to try them!
