1 Red welcomed their parent/carers into school today as part of ‘World Book Week’. The children and their families enjoyed listening to and telling stories to each other. It was wonderful to see all the children fully emersed in books and being able to talk to each other about the stories they read or heard. We definitely have some book worms amongst our class.
What a fabulous couple of hours we all had yesterday! L:ots of our children’s adults came to our stay and play. We are so proud of how Reception children have progressed socially and academically and letting them show everyone these fabulous skills was a pleasure.
In DT we designed and created a congratulations card for the winner of the class election that took place just before half-term. We designed a card that had a moving part, using levers and linkages. Once we finished creating our cards, we evaluated them. We discussed what we liked about our designs, the challenges we faced and how we would improve or change our design if we did it again.
What a fabulous week! We have played guess who with the baby photos using our time language. Had races to see how fast we can pick up items or run in a set amount of time. We made the most amazing play dough pancakes our story in Drawing Club was ‘The Little Red Hen’ we also read ‘The Little Red Hen Makes Pizza’. We decided to make our own pizzas. The children chose their toppings and then sat with their friends to eat their delicious creations ❤️
Today 1 Red had their first music lesson with Mr O. It was all about listening and following instructions to play games and copy the rhythm and beat and work as a team. The children were split into 2 teams and had to work extremally hard together by communicating using their bodies and voices to enable them to beat each other and working effectively and quickly. A great time was had by all and we can’t wait for our next session.
For our final football lesson in PE, we used all the skills we have learnt over the last few weeks and implemented them in some team games.
1 Red have been looking at the Artist Cesar Manrique in Learning Means the World. Cesar was a famous artist, architect, designer and developer in Lanzarote. One of the things he was famous for was looking after his community and building and designing wind turbines. The children designed their own miniature wind turbines then actually used their design and technology skills to make their own pinwheels.
Wow, what a busy time Reception have had. We have been looking at the Emergency Services and how they help us. The children have been full emersed and are ready to join when they are older! We have been using the story Three Billy Goats in Drawing Club and the children have loved creating bridges, recreating the story and writing sentences about the story. We have also been measuring our hands and feet. A fabulous couple of weeks!
We are really enjoying our Land Ahoy theme but we encountered a problem! Our pirate only has one hand and there are lots of jobs to do on a ship. We designed a remote control to help him with his daily tasks and we added a variety of buttons for weather reports, kidstube, loud speaker (to shout at the crew). We also made it water proof because as you know pirates spend most of their time voyaging around the seas.
