As part of Mental Health Week we have been looking at self compassion and that if we don’t take care of ourselves we won’t have any energy to help or take care of others around us. We took part in Yoga and then completed a self compassion mirror where we looked at how amazing we are and why we are so special.
Year Six had a lovely visit from some of the Year One children this morning and they couldn’t wait to share how amazing their maths work is. Not only was their work presented beautifully, their progress with number bonds to 20 is clearly brilliant – well done everyone and keep it up!
We have been learning to edit and redraft our work in English. The children worked in pairs and travelled around the class visiting 4 different Editing Stations; Grammar Grove, Punctuation Point, Spelling Square and Add More Avenue. Everyone made improvements to their writing. Well Done 7 Blue!
This week in Maths we have been learning to count on from a previous number. We have ‘experienced’ and ‘played’ with it. We know we can put a larger number in our heads and count on, do you know you don’t always have to start counting at 1?
Our current Learning Means The World theme is ‘Ticket To Ride!’ We have been using this throughout our learning. In maths we have looked at numbers, 1 more and 1 less, number bonds, shape and positional language. We have gone on magical train rides telling our friends where we would go and why. We used our sounds and made transport words such as van, bus, truck, sub etc And of course some snowy fun!
Well done to Emillie and James who were the latest winners of our maths problem of the week! Emillie was able to apply her place value knowledge to say which of two numbers was closer to another value. James used his subtracting skills to calculate the difference between two pieces of data. They were just two of the many correct entries so well done to everyone who took part.
See attached the latest from our School Council! They have been very busy and have lots to get organised.
We have just finished our current theme- May The Force Be With You. We have been learning all about forces. We have been learning about pushes, pulls, gravity and magnetism. We even created our own maths fishing game using magnets and paper clips. We searched for magnetic and non- magnetic metals and recorded our findings on Venn diagrams. We also designed and made our own moving vehicle to investigate which surface would slow them down. It if safe to say we have all really enjoyed learning all about forces.
Year 2 are currently enjoying weekly music sessions with Mr Olatungi.
So far they’ve concentrated on the timing of beats, challenging themselves with beats and rest and have now moved on to rhythm.
We’ve also practice these skills in our PE theme, dancing like water.
Each team showed outstanding communication and teamwork in creating water-like moves to perform in unison then in cannon.
