Today in PE Year 4 have been working on their Gymnastic skills. We learned to hold and control a balance whilst creating a bridge with our bodies. We then looked at making our bridges have two levels, whilst at the same time trying to be symmetrical. We did a fantastic job! Move over Beth Tweddle, here come Year 4!
Year 4 have been using the game ‘Where’s Wally?’ to help with their understanding of prepositional phrases today.
This week we have been learning how to solve problems in maths. We had to use the digits 0-7 once to complete a puzzle square. The aim was to find trios of numbers with a total of 10. The children worked in pairs to plan their approach together. When they did not get the correct answer they tried a new approach demonstrating great resilience. Everyone used good reasoning skills and eventually solved the number puzzle! Well done 7 Blue!
As part of our Learning Means the a World theme, ‘Come Fly With me Asia’ we have been looking at China, it’s culture, traditions and what you might see if you visit. We looked at the Chinese Zodiac and the 12 animals that represented each year. The children in our class were born in either the year of the ‘dog’ or ‘rooster’. We went outdoors and raced against each other using the 12 animal masks to see who won each time. The children were great sports and had lots of fun. They have also been looking at Chinese writing and having a go! We also have a Chinese restaurant that the children are visiting regularly!
7 Red and their fantastic phonics work this week…
Well Done !
Wow, what a day in Nursery! We started off by learning a little about Diwali and some of the things that Hindu’s do to celebrate. We made Rangoli patterns out of loose parts and paint and even participated in special Bollywood dancing. I wonder if any of our talented dances can show their grown ups a move or two!
This week the children had a fantastic opportunity to take part in R.E workshops based around the Indian festival Lights ‘Diwali’. Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and New Year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Kalpesh from K’z Dance Entertainment Ltd taught all the children some traditional Bollywood Indian dances and discussed with them the meaning of the Diwali festival and taught them the story of Rama and Sita. The children ended their workshops with a traditional Diwali dance using sticks (Dhandhiya). The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and displayed some fantastic moves.
KS1 took part in celebrating the festival of ‘Diwali’ carried out by Kz Entertainment (a London based drama and dance group). Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and New Year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.Children will listen to Diwali stories, learn some Bollywood dances and then take part in the tradition Dhandiya dances (stick dancing) which is a dance celebrated at this festival. As you can see the children had a great time!
We have been learning about the Harvest Festival, why we traditionally have this festival in the UK and why. We then looked at various foods including fruit and vegetables and where they come from. The children used their senses to describe how they looked, felt and smell. They then became artists and drew some of the foods! Later, we will be tasting some vegetable soup!
