The children in 1 Red loved Sports Day and it was made even more special by our parents coming to watch. We had a great time. We ran relays, egg and spoon race, bean bag balance, sack race and football skills. We loved showing off our amazing skills!
We had a fantastic time ….a huge thank you to all the parents that came and cheered for us!
Even the weather was kind!
Well done 7 Red
we all need a lie down now!
In our theme of ‘Royal Patrons’ we have been looking at how things were different in the olden days compared to now. We were especially interested in the old toys! We played with marbles, yo- yos, hoop and stick, egg and cup and lots more. We thought they were fun but we would probably get bored after a while! We discussed which of these toys our parents/grandparents played with and we have been researching this at home and sending in photos of our family’s old toys.
In our Jigsaw session this week we have been looking at different part of the male and female anatomy. We sorted pictures into a Venn diagram to explain what body parts we shared and which part were different. We have looked at the real names for these body parts and discussed our ever changing bodies.
As part of our previous theme ‘What on earth?’ and then linking into our current theme ‘Over the Rainbow’ Reception were very lucky to look after some caterpillars. We investigated the life cycle and then watched out caterpillars grow, change to the chrysalis stage and then finally our beautiful butterflies emerged! We observed them for a day or two and fed them fruit, when they were ready, we let them go free! Some of them flew off straight away, but one of them stayed as it seemed to like sitting with one of our girls!
This week we have been learning about traditional Celtic music. The children have learned about ancient Celtic instruments as well as creating their own percussion based compositions.
As part of our RE week, we have been learning about how Christian people help each other . We learnt about different Christian charities and how they help people.
1 Red and the rest of the school took part in Diversity Week. We looked at how we were all different and that we like different things, that the whole world has many cultures and beliefs and that we should be accepting and inclusive to all.
This week in Maths 2 Red have been learning about position and direction. To get us started with some key vocabulary we followed the Cha Cha Slide. We then added extra vocabulary such as quarter, half and full turns, and clockwise and anticlockwise – connecting this all back to previous learning about time and fractions to help us. We had great fun writing instructions for our stick person, Robin, to them around our map ensuring we talked like true mathematicians!
