In RE this term year one have been learning about how important it is to belong to something such as family, class or community and how it is to feel accepted amongst these groups. We then looked at how Christians often gather in community groups at church for things such as weddings, christenings and baptisms. One Red then decided to have their own baptism in class, discussing the whole process and the important people involved. The children learnt the importance of togetherness and celebration and how that is a vital part in belonging.
Another very busy and amazing week in Reception. We had a visit from Mr O who was showing us some instruments, using rhythm and music. The creativity is fabulous! Amazing team work and lots of imagination. We have been using our maths skills in lots of our planning time and the independent writing has blown us away. The sunny weather is definitely helping as we can be outside working together ❤️⭐️
In our ‘Going Wild’ theme we have been looking at animal prints and the different textures, colours and combinations our wild animals have. In art we have tried to copy these prints using a range of materials and techniques. We then designed our own print for our imaginary animal.
In 2 red this week we’ve had a huge focus on explaining, verbalising and reasoning our methods and processes. To help us practice this, we have been teaching our aliens to add! We’ve had to make sure we have explained every detail of the methods to help our alien learn all about addition in Year 2.
In LMTW ‘Light up the World’ we have been focusing on different sounds we can hear in our natural environment. The children had to listen to the different sounds then act them out using different body parts for their friends to guess them. The children in turn guessed what each sound was then together made class actions for each sound.
In Jigsaw year one have thinking about friendships and being kind. We took turns to say what a good friend looked like. Each child picked a friend and said a positive thing about why they were a good friend in order to boost their confidence and make them feel worthwhile and appreciated. Every child willingly took part and it had a positive impact on all. We then sorted statements into kind and unkind ones and said why we didn’t like the unkind statements.
What a busy time we have had in Reception. Some amazing creations, writing and maths using our first, then, now language. Great collaborations, exploring and fun in the sun ❤️
Today we have been learning all about the different parts of a plant and their jobs. We looked at a Lilly and cut it up to be able to see inside and this helped us to understand how it worked.
We had a lovely morning with Reception parents earlier in the week. We showed them some of our Maths and English skills and how we use these skills through our groups sessions and through our play. I think everyone was so impressed at our growing independence!
Reverend Ian came to visit us this morning. We talked about a story from the bible about Jesus and some of his friends. They were in the boat and there was a storm. His friends were very frightened. We talked about things that make us feel frightened. The children suggested some ideas such as exams, starting a new school etc. We then talked about what we could do if we feel frightened. The children had some great ideas such as tell a teacher, grandparents, family or a trusted adult. We then sang a song with him and our friends.
