Call and Response African Music

29th November 2023L Davison

This week in music, Year 4 have been looking at call and response drumming, as part of our Africa theme.

We learned that Africans often used music as a form of communication, especially across different tribes, where they may speak a different language.

Wellbeing Garden

28th November 2023N Fada

To ensure well-being for all is promoted within our school we are planning to develop a wellbeing garden.

With the support of a local company, Willoby Roc’s, we have secured some funding from The Bupa Foundation to help us develop this area.  Once it is fully developed, the children will be able to participate in lots of outdoor activities that will contribute to their overall well-being.

Last week the school council met to share their ideas for this area.  Here is a list of some of the things they would like:

  • A reading area
  • Seats made from logs
  • A water play area
  • A mud Kitchen
  • Den building
  • A music area
  • A drawing area (mud painting)
  • A story telling and reading area
  • Equipment to carry out bug hunts to spot wildlife and scavenger hunts linked to seasons.
  • Games made from natural materials such as tic tac toe
  • A shaded area
  • An entrance to the garden with a sign naming the area
  • An area to grow flowers and herbs

We will try to include as many of their ideas as we can when the work begins after Christmas. We aim to have all the work on this area completed by April and will keep you updated with our progress.

Preparing for Christmas.

17th November 2023J Donkin

Dear Community,

Preparations for Christmas are likely to be well underway in most households, with only 38 more sleeps to go until the big day. Christmas can be a very stressful time for children, young people and adults with Autism so I would just like to draw your attention to the National Autistic Society’s website which has lots of useful information and strategies which may help us to cope better during the busy festive period.

I really do hope that you find the links helpful. Just click on the link below for more information.

Take good care.

Unfortunately School Council could not attend the Armistice service in Monkton Village as it was on Saturday this year.  Hebburn Lakes has still placed a wreath at the memorial. We will remember them ❤️

We Will Remember Them

10th November 2023C Campbell

Mrs Moody held a special assembly today ahead of Remembrance Day this weekend on Saturday 11th November. Remembrance Day marks the day that World War One ended, at the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918. The children learned about why poppies are such an important part of our tributes to those lost in battle and we also observed a period of silence to respect those affected by wars past and present. A wreath of remembrance will also be kindly left at the war memorial in Hebburn on behalf of Hebburn Lakes Primary School by Mrs Richardson.
