Today Reception and Key Stage One to start off our Christmas celebrations we were fortunate to have a theatre company come in to school to perform the pantomime Aladdin. We all had an amazing time, laughed out loud, had a cheeky little snack and to top it off we got to see Mrs Sikka and Miss Clark dance with the cast.
In One Red and One BLue this week we have been learning all about the Aurora in Learning Means the World. The children created beautiful pictures in their Art lesson to create the ‘Northern Lights’. They used different coloured pastels to rub and create beautiful representation of the night sky colourful explosions.
This week in LMTW we have been looking at links with other countries. The children were asked if they had any family or friends who lived in different countries, then they talked to each other about them. We shared various greetings from other countries such as ‘ola’, ‘bonjour’, ‘guten tag’ and ‘namaste’. The children had great fun working in partners greeting each other in different languages. We also looked at the world map to see where some of our family and friends lived.
This week in Year One we have been focusing on 2d and 3d shapes in Math’s and discussing their various properties. We have sorted, classified, arranged and looked for different shapes in the environment. A large focus of the week was using associated vocabulary related to the different shapes. We have enjoyed searching for shapes in our learning provison.
1 Red have been doing Gymnasts in PE this week. They have been learning various ways to curl their bodies to enable them to roll. The had to remember to have good posture when starting and finishing their movements. We definitely have some budding Gymnasts amongst us.
Today in LMTW .Come Fly with me Arctic Circle’ 1 Red focused on the subject of Art. The children had built ‘inukshuks’ (a structure of rough stones stacked in the form of a human figure, traditionally used by Inuit people as a landmark or commemorative sign). The figure of the inukshuk is omnipresent in Inuit tradition. The children used teamwork to work together to make wonderful representations.
The children in year one love exploring the outdoor area during the continuous provision to consolidate any Math’s work they have done in class. This week we have been focusing on number bonds to 10 and this was clearly evident in the children’s play outdoors.
The children in 1 Red have been so enthusiastic about our Learning Means the World theme ‘Come Fly with me Arctic Circle’ and are loving learning about the habitats, people and animals that live in the Arctic. Today we learnt all about an Inuit (Eskimo) and it’s life within the Arctic circle. The children had Design and Technology lesson where they had to use appropriate materials to design and make their own Inuit. They discussed the different materials they used and used the associated vocabulary to describe them. Some of these Inuit’s may be found on the catwalk as their outfits are simply amazing!
In Year One we have become ‘Arctic Explorers’ as part of our theme ‘Come Fly with me Arctic Circle’. The children are really enjoying role-playing in our Arctic area. They have to use associated language and ‘act out’ living as an Inuit in the Arctic. They are having great fun reading and writing about all things Arctic too!
We have had a great time at our spooky Halloween disco in Year One. We danced lots, played games and ate hot dogs and sweets!
