England Rocks TTRS Champions!

18th November 2024Victoria Cartmell

This week, Hebburn Lakes have taken part in an epic battle of Times Tables, against the rest of England!
We have worked incredibly hard to earn coins and points, increasing our times table knowledge and speedy recall!
Whilst we didn’t come top of the England leaderboard, we have had some friendly competition within school- across each Key Stage!

After an intense battle, with the leaderboard constantly changing, our top Rock Star champions were:

2 Blue – Key Stage 1

4 Blue – Lower Key Stage 2

6 Blue – Upper Key Stage 2

A huge congratulations to all the children for their achievement!

In addition, we have three individual Rock Star shout-out’s, to those children who reached the top three spots, in the overall school:

1st – Cameron (6 Blue)

2nd – Esme (5 Blue)

3rd- Tyler-Jae (4 Blue)

Well done to all of the children, who took part and remember, keep practicing those times tables; they really do help to support your Maths learning, skills and progress!

Charity Champion!

19th November 2023Victoria Cartmell

A massive well done to Jessica, on her contribution to charity and fundraising in her own time!

With the help of friends, Jess has organised craft days , ran stalls at the event, held games on the microphone with the DJ’s  and came up with lots of ideas to raise money!

Amazingly, a ‘Kids rave’ (organised by Jess) has raised over £1,000!

Money which will all be donated to local charity, Hebburn Helps, and will support many families during financial difficulties, including enabling children waking up to presents on Christmas morning- a true gift of kindness and generosity.

We are beyond proud of the selfless act of kindness you have displayed, and hope you continue to raise money for amazing causes!

Well done Jess!

‘Race to 5’ attendance treat!

27th October 2023Victoria Cartmell

This half term, 5 Blue have successfully achieved 5 weeks of 98% attendance or above… AMAZING effort!!!

As a reward, we have had an afternoon of Halloween fun, including making: Spooky paperchains, 3D paper pumpkin decorations and Halloween witch wreaths!

Topping off our afternoon of treats, we enjoyed a cosy hot chocolate (with spooky marshmallows!) and a Halloween movie!

A huge well done to 5 Blue and thank you to our parents and carers, for your continued support in our drive for 100% attendance!

Summer Fun day- 5 Blue

13th July 2023Victoria Cartmell

5 Blue have had a blast during this year’s Summer Fun day!

From the InflataRun bouncy course and Mr Campbell’s sports zone outside- complete with: football, badminton, table tennis and basketball- to learning new Circus skills and Chinese dancing, it is safe to say that we had an amazing day!

All topped off with a classically British ice-cream… in the rain!

STEMFest 2023

13th July 2023Victoria Cartmell

This half term, thirty of our year 5 and 6 pupils were lucky enough to take part in this years STEMFest event.

STEMFest is an annual festival, aiming to encourage and inspire young people from North East schools, into STEM subjects and career goals. This year, over 50 North East businesses delivered hands-on activities- showcasing the range of careers and job roles available in the STEM sector in our region.

Whilst at the event, our children were able to explore four zones: Space, Technology (including cyber attacks and piloting), Environment and Manufacturing.

We left feeling inspired and inquisitive about our future careers in the STEM field of work!

‘The Rescuers’ home learning!

2nd July 2023Victoria Cartmell

This half term, Year 5 Navigators are embarking on a new Learning Means The World theme, titled ‘The Rescuers’.

Focusing on the catastrophic tragedy of The Titanic, we have delved into our research about this, once majestic ship, nicknamed ‘Queen of the Sea’ and ‘Unsinkable’… to name a few.

We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about The Titanic… so much so, that no sooner had our home learning menu been taken home, we had some of our 5 Blue Navigators use their research, to create phenomenal, scaled-down models of the majestic vessel, just as an engineer or designer would have done, back in 1912!

Little Inventors- Competition Winner!

5th June 2023Victoria Cartmell

Back in February, South Tyneside Council and Dogger Bank Wind Farm teamed up with Little Inventors to bring us ‘Powering the Future: South Tyneside and Beyond!’

Both our Year 4 and %ear 5 pupils took on an invention challenge, created for their year group.

This challenge focused on the role and uses of wind and kinetic energy- both forms of renewable energy.

All of our entries were amazingly creative and bursting with innovation!

Incredibly, out of the 167 ideas posted into the competition, our very own Tommy (4 Red) had his invention selected as a winning entry; he was then invited to meet the designers and have his invention brought to life!

Gardening award!

10th May 2023Victoria Cartmell

This half-term, our gardening club have already achieved their Level 1 award, from the Royal Horticultural Society!

Working in the school garden, we are aiming to get some edible produce (fruits and vegetables) planted, ready to harvest and taste test ourselves.

Adding to our level 1 award, we have also officially been given our School Gardening member plaque and are continuing to work our green fingers, to reach levels 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Well done gardeners, keep up the fantastic work!

Y5- Roman day!

2nd February 2023Victoria Cartmell

Today, Year 5 have immersed ourselves into our Roman day!

We began with making our own laurel wreaths, before taste-testing some of the ‘exotic fruits’ which the wealthy emperors would have been lucky enough to have feasted upon!

Finally, we built our own catapults, using wooden lollypop sticks, elastic bands and spoons. We had a competition in the hall, to see who could fire their catapults the furthest; focusing on forces such as tension and gravity, to propel objects across a distance.
