Today we were lucky enough to start our drumming lessons with Mr Olatunji. He introduced us to the Tam Tam and we all had a go at starting really quietly and getting louder and louder. We loved it and can not wait for next week!

4 Red took part in a battle motto competition, where they had to make up an intimidating war chant. We looked at the Maori Hakka and the Icelandic battle chants to inspire our brutal battle performances.

2 Red developed their music skills this week. After learning the song Shiver Me Timbers we chose instruments to represent each of the actions happening in the lyrics.
After deciding that the song sets a scene in our minds we shared out the parts of the song and each drew what was happening.

School Council introduce the Hebburn Lakes chant!
We have a new chant, using ideas from all of the children… it is fabulous!
Unity In The Community is a lovely theme which teaches us all about our surrounding areas and to look at them in different ways. We have been looking at not taking our lovely area for granted and to think about it with positivity. We had a look at some very boring signs that we often see in the area around us and we decided to allocate each sign a sound. After a while we realised that we had become composers and had created a musical story. We then used 2Simple to generate our story and listened to our creations. Look out Top Of The Pops!
Our Reception Classes are really enjoying our ‘Little Movers‘ sessions this term. Working with Pip our specialist leader, the children have been learning a range of physical development skills to boost their movement, balance and coordination across the curriculum. The children have loved the games and songs too – they have been really fun to be involved with and the smiles on our children’s faces is lovely to see. Well done everyone!
This week in our theme of ‘Never Eat Shredded Wheat’ we have been looking at maps and how to read them. We have been giving each other directions to find places on a map and we know the difference between human and physical geographical features. We even created our own maps and matching key. We then thought about the sounds that each symbol on our key could make and we composed our own geographical music score!
Key Stage Two performed beautifully at St John’s church on Friday – well done everyone!
An extra special thank you to all of the children with speaking parts – it’s not always easy to stand up in front of a church full of people – but you did it and you should be proud.

Ian, from St John’s Church in Hebburn, came to visit us for a special assembly to discuss how we are all special in different ways; how to think about each others feelings and respect each other at all times. We had a lovely sing and a dance together.
Reception had their first ‘Little Movers’ PE session today. Lots of dancing and following routines, team work and balancing skills! We all had a fabulous time and feel super fit.
