26th March 2025K Richardson

We had a visit this morning from Reverend Ian who is based at St. John’s church. He talked about how it is Mother’s Day this weekend. We discussed how mams, nanas , carers and important women are so special in our lives. The children then gave examples of how they are helped from our special people. We then sang a song ❤️

Marvelous Measuring!

21st March 2025L Chisholm

In 2 Blue this week we have been looking at measuring in centimetres and metres.  We have measured long and short items around our classroom and in the wider school.  We looked at all of the different ways in which measuring can be done, our favourite was the Trundle wheel! We know that to get an accurate measurement we must make sure we line our ruler or tape measure up nice and straight and that we start at zero.

Reception busy times in spring!

21st March 2025K Richardson

Reception have been showing off their independent reading, writing and maths skills. We have been reading words, hunting for them outside and writing sentences. We are using skittles, counters and objects to investigate number bonds of 10. We have decorated pots and then sprinkled cress seeds in to make cress heads. We talked about what the seeds need so that they will grow. We have some new additions to Reception. Everyone was so excited to see the frogspawn. We will be investigating how they change, grow and how we can look after them.

World Book Day

19th March 2025s begum

We had an awesome day celebrating World Book Day. We took part in lots of different activities throughout the day. We performed our favourite traditional tale in the Performance Area and then we listened to a story in Hansel and Gretel’s cottage. Later on, we built a bridge for the three Billy goats, built a giant beanstalk for Jack to climb and made houses for the three little pigs.

World Book Day Fun in Year One!

17th March 2025N Sikka

We have had great fun today doing all things related to Traditional Tales as part of ‘World Book Day’. We have built beanstalks for Jack, houses for the three pigs, a bridge for the troll and decorated princess carriages. We got to listen to stories in Hansel and Gretel’s cottage and also acted out our favourite stories in the Performance Area. The children have made book marks in class and had a quiz around traditional tales, the competition is unreal. Great fun has been had by all.

2 Blue had a Pirates life!

17th March 2025L Chisholm

We went on our class trip to Hartlepool Marina where we visited the HMS Trincomalee, a Royal Navy vessel which is more than 200 yrs old! We looked at different artefacts that would be used on voyages and explored the ship from the gun deck to the captains quarters.  We looked around the Hartlepool navy museum and found out lots of interesting facts such as: Each sailor had a number on their hammock and when they died their number was up and they were wrapped in their hammock.  They were even sewn into the hammock with the last stitch going through their nose! This was done in case any of the sneaky sailors pretended they were dead to escape the life at sea.  Despite the weather being terrible the children had a great time!

I have tried to capture them all but apologies if I’ve missed anyone. I’m glad I’m not judging! Winners to be announced soon.

Book Day in 2 Red

17th March 2025L Phillips

Another great Book Day in Hebburn Lakes!

2 Red loved spending the week looking at fractured fairytales and created their own very imaginative versions of Cinderella.

We then ended the week with a whole range of fairytale-themed activities such as a character hunt around the school, a decorated door competition, reading in the Hansel and Gretel Hobbit Hut, performing like fairytale characters in the Magical Forest performance area, challenges of building houses of sticks and bridges of paper, and many, many more fun activities!
