2 Red were given a design brief to use their scientific thinking to plan and make a boat transporter for it to travel on land.
After doing some research and watching boat launches, they worked in teams to try out and problem solve their design ideas.
They considered push and pull forces, how things move, as well as using prior and wider knowledge about boats, movement and floating.
We have been looking at the impressionist painter Claude Monet. We loved his use of colour and shades in ‘The Waves’. We made a graduated colour chart to show the different blues we could make and then we tried our best to recreate the famous picture. 
In 1 Red today we arrived to a school receiving a letter that had been sent by ‘The Jolly Rodgers’. They told us in the letter that they had snuck into our classroom at the weekend and stole Mrs Sikka’s prize box. They told us that the only way we could get it back was to write letters to them and tell them why they deserved it back and how it would make them feel. The children were horrified that the box had been stolen and went looking around the classroom for clues. Many of the children took it upon themselves to write to ‘The Jolly Rodgers’ asking for their box back. Watch this space to see if it returns!
As part of our PE this half term we have been looking at different ways our bodies move during dance. We have imagined ourselves as explorers and we have travelled through different terrains. This week we were imagining we were pirates seeking treasure however, when we found the treasure it was too big to move. Using dance we had to create a movement that would help us transport our treasure. We had so much fun as you can see!
Another fabulous week! So much maths work going on.. number bonds, capacity and so much more. Help is at hand was shining, helping each other, keeping everything tidy and showing their fabulous skills at home lots of independent phonics, reading and building words, fabulous team work and being a great friend!
This week, we had a special visit from a geologist. We explored and learnt lots about fossils. We all had an awesome time!
This week we have been learning about ‘States of Matter’. The children explored how the molecules of solids, liquids and gases move.
Wow, what a week! We were lucky enough to have a special visitor this week in the form of a real-life ‘geologist’. The children thoroughly enjoyed explored ‘real’ fossils and learnt a lot about how to become ‘fossil hunters’ themselves. A fantastic afternoon had by all.
This week in Science, we have been looking at soil. We discussed what soil is made from and we investigated 3 different types, sandy soil, chalk soil and clay soil. During our investigation, we observed and discussed the differences in appearance, texture and smell.
Today in LMTW 1 Red looked at lots of breads from around the world. After lots of discussion and research we found out where each bread originated from and talked about whether we had tasted any of the different types. We then used our five senses to explore the bread, but our favourite sense used was the sense of taste. Most of the children enjoyed the bread tasting activity and were able to use associated vocabulary to describe what each one was like.
