As part of our RE week, we have been learning about how Christian people help each other . We learnt about different Christian charities and how they help people.

1 Red and the rest of the school took part in Diversity Week. We looked at how we were all different and that we like different things, that the whole world has many cultures and beliefs and that we should be accepting and inclusive to all.
This week in Maths 2 Red have been learning about position and direction. To get us started with some key vocabulary we followed the Cha Cha Slide. We then added extra vocabulary such as quarter, half and full turns, and clockwise and anticlockwise – connecting this all back to previous learning about time and fractions to help us. We had great fun writing instructions for our stick person, Robin, to them around our map ensuring we talked like true mathematicians!
This week in maths we have been looking at fractions of amounts and equivalent fractions. The children worked really hard to gain a clear understanding of fractions of amounts before moving on to more complex equivalent fractions.
As part of our Path to Success way of learning, the children ‘played’ with it today.
Year 1 and 7 Red went on a trip to the Centre For Life in Newcastle as part of our theme of Light and Dark. In the scientific part of the visit we experimented with moving cogs, built rockets, researched how astronauts live out in space (including how they go to the toilet!) and manned a space station. We also visited the planetarium and watched the story of Little Bear and saw all the constellations in our skies. In our geographical section of our trip we looked at animals from different continents and were able to name the continents and discover what the habitat is like on each continent. We then went into the play zone where we were able to create structures, shadows and role play. We had an amazing day and our behaviour was exemplary! We are so proud of you all!
This week during our theme ‘What on earth?’ we have been looking at small things. Then Reception used the story ‘Little Red Hen’ to support some of our learning. We decided to make some bread, the smell of baking bread was amazing and it tasted delicious! We certainly have some contenders for Great British Bake Off!

This week the children had a fantastic opportunity to take part in R.E workshops based around the Indian festival of colour, ‘Holi’. Kalpesh from K’z Dance Entertainment Ltd taught all the children some traditional Indian dances and discussed with them the meaning of the Holi festival. At the end of the day the whole school came together and performed the dances taught earlier in the day, the children and staff had some wonderful moves! At the end of the performance everyone took part in throwing colourful dyes at one another to celebrate Holi, just like it is carried out in India.
This week year 4 have completed another ‘Get Ahead’ challenge. They designed group murals based on the theme ‘Conservation’. Well done year 4.
We had a great day at the ‘Space’ themed exhibition at the Life Science Centre.
Lots to do and lots to explore, from launching rockets in Mission Control to watching a film about star constellations in a 360 degree movie dome. We even helped with some science experiments, investigating space travel and exploration.
