Every Friday in Year One we have a Motor Skills session to help support our fine and gross motor skills. The children are becoming increasingly more confident whilst using the equipment to help strengthen their to muscles to support their physical development.
In PE, we practised our underarm and overarm throws with our PE coach.
This week in PE, we practised our triple jump, which consisted of hopping, stepping and jumping with two feet. Then, we practised relay races in teams.
It is lovely to be able to share news about our children’s achievements out-of-school and Alfie in 6 Blue has had some brilliant football achievements to shout about. Alfie plays as goalkeeper for Hebburn Town Under 11s and his team has enjoyed a very successful season, resulting in promotion this year. Alfie was also awarded ‘Man-of-the-match’ in the last game of the season and he also won ‘Save-of-the-season’ too! What a fantastic achievement Alfie and keep up the brilliant work – well done to Hebburn Town Under 11s too!

Today we have been learning about ordinal numbers and where we see them. The children agreed that they are mostly used in races so we decided to hold our own race morning where we awarded each other with the correct ordinal number. We had lots of fun!
We took part in our sponsored circuit morning with our special visitor Paralympian Lucy Turner. We did spotty dogs, mountain climbers, press ups and star jumps. We completed our circuits in approximately 7 minutes and we were brilliant. We have collected lots of money to go towards buying new sports equipment for our school. We are so proud of ourselves!
Today we took part in our ‘sponsored sports circuits’ in collaboration with ‘Sports for Schools’. The children were all extremely motivated and willing to have a go which made the whole event a huge success. Lucy and Chris who carried out the event commented on how amazing and committed the children were and that they were a credit to the whole school. The session was finished off with question and answer style assembly where the children found out all about Lucy’s path to becoming a Paralympian. The message from Lucy was ‘you can achieve your dreams if you just give 100% to all you do’. Well done Hebburn Lakes!
This half-term in PE, we are doing dance. The theme is based on space and we are exploring being astronauts and aliens. So far, we have created a sequence consisting of 3 movements and performed it in unison and then in canon.
The children in Reception are having so much fun exploring dance through their Little Movers PE sessions, here is a clip of their wonderful dance performance.
As part of our LMTW theme ‘Food Glorious Food’ we have been looking at ‘sweet foods’ We have used the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ throughout the week including Drawing Club. The children have been building the bears house using 3D shapes which was part of our maths this week. We talked about which shapes would be the best for building and why. They recreated the story, wrote captions, read instructions of how to make porridge and used their maths skills of full and empty to recreate the porridge scene, also using size to make sure the bears were in the corrects chairs! We tasted honey and talked about how it is a healthy sweet option and why. We then ate a variety of sweet foods and timed how long it would take to eat them. We talked about which took the longest/shortest times and why, using our science skills of how chocolate melts and why. We looked at and discussed which sweet foods are healthy and which are not healthy, ask your children to tell you, they were experts!
