A fruity week in Nursery

18th October 2022N Bramley

The Nursery children all agreed that fruit and vegetables are healthy and we set about exploring.  First we used all our senses to explore a range of fruits and vegetables, talking about them using descriptive vocabulary such as furry, soft, wet, sticky, smooth and sweet.  We printed with different types of fruit and vegetables, talking about the colours and shapes.  We investigated which fruit and vegetables float and which ones sink and we have used our knowledge of shape and number to make fruit faces.  Why not continue exploring at home and see if you notice any interesting fruit and vegetables while you are out and about.

Magic Maths work in 1 Blue!

11th October 2022Miss L Robinson

This week the children were introduced to the part – whole model in maths. We played around changing the numbers in the two parts and added them together to find the whole. We made number sentences to go with our models. We noticed that we can change the number sentence around when adding together.

The Gingerbread Man

11th October 2022Hayley Tampin

We have read the story of The Gingerbread Man. The children have enjoyed retelling the story, using the play dough to make their own gingerbread men, counting buttons on different gingerbread men and lots more!

The children used jelly tots, chocolate drops and icing sugar to decorate their own gingerbread man biscuit.

We think they did a great job and hope they enjoy eating them as much as they enjoyed decorating them!

Look at the ruler … there is a number pattern (look carefully at the tens and ones)

Which numbers are covered up?, we investigated different ways of solving this problem.

We also used dice to create ascending and descending number patterns.

We are part – whole – perfectionists!

5th October 2022L Chisholm

This week in our Maths lessons we have been looking at the part – whole model and how we can use it to complete our addition work.  We have looked at all the commutative ways we can make the number and how we can show our answers using the model.  We are absolutely amazing, even starting to use 3 and 4 parts to our model.

Little Red Riding Hood’s biscuits

5th October 2022Miss L Robinson

In 1 Blue we made biscuits for Little Red Riding Hood to take to Granny! The children used the scales to measure and weigh out the ingredients and mixed them together before cutting them into shapes. We then explored using the scales with different objects and liquids.

1 Red made cookies for Granny!

28th September 2022L Chisholm

Throughout our theme ‘Happily Ever After’ we have been looking at fairytales. This week we have been reading and completing work around the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We decided that cookies are a great treat and that we would like to make them (to make sure they were good enough for Granny obviously).  We looked at a recipe and thought about what ingredients we would need.  We then used the correct equipment to weigh out the ingredients and mix the batter.  Our Teacher put them in the oven and took them out when it was time then we took them home to eat, before The Big Bad Wolf could smell them!

Year 1’s First Weeks

27th September 2022L Chisholm

The children have settled into Year 1 wonderfully!  We have already started our Learning Means The World Theme ‘ Happily Ever After’ in which we are researching fairy tales and their settings and characters.  In our Maths we have been counting forwards and backwards and saying 1 more and 1 less than a given number. We are already learning so much and can’t wait to see what else we can do.
