1 Blue are brrrriliant!

21st November 2023L Chisholm

In our ‘Learning Means The World’ theme ‘Come Fly With Me: Arctic’ we have been researching animals that live there and how they survive.  We have looked at the Inuit people and have created a collage of their clothing using the correct materials that have the qualities that that piece of clothing needs eg waterproof.  We also created a ‘Slider’ which was a moving picture and we made this by completing a design and technology task. I’m sure you’ll agree that our work is brrrrilliant!

Charity Champion!

19th November 2023Victoria Cartmell

A massive well done to Jessica, on her contribution to charity and fundraising in her own time!

With the help of friends, Jess has organised craft days , ran stalls at the event, held games on the microphone with the DJ’s  and came up with lots of ideas to raise money!

Amazingly, a ‘Kids rave’ (organised by Jess) has raised over £1,000!

Money which will all be donated to local charity, Hebburn Helps, and will support many families during financial difficulties, including enabling children waking up to presents on Christmas morning- a true gift of kindness and generosity.

We are beyond proud of the selfless act of kindness you have displayed, and hope you continue to raise money for amazing causes!

Well done Jess!

Year 2 Media workshop

19th November 2023L Martin

Year 2 were so incredibility lucky to have an amazing afternoon with Mark Bryant from Media Partnership.  He spoke to the children about his experiences  working within the media industry, and all of the different roles there are.  He also demonstrated some of the equipment the company uses for filming, and then explained how Green Screen works.

As you’ll see from the photographs, the children had an amazing experience linking real life to their current Learning Means The World theme- Inter-Nation Media Station.

Art appreciation in 2 Blue!

19th November 2023L Martin

As part of our Learning Means the World theme, Zero to Hero, 2 Blue carried out an artist study on Christy Brown.

The children looked at his fabulous paintings and discussed their opinions before learning that Christy Brown actually painted these using a paint brush he held between his toes!

After overcoming their shock and amazement, the children tried it for themselves with great success!

Reception are mini chefs!

17th November 2023K Richardson

As part of our theme Come Fly With Me, Asia we have been learning about India. Today we made a delicious curry! We have some budding chefs 😊 The children used their senses to describe how the ingredients in the curry felt, tasted, looked like and most importantly tasted after being cooked! We ate the curry with rice and naan bread and it was delicious. We were blown away by how many children tried it and enjoyed it.

Come Fly With Me America!

17th November 2023lhockings

This week in 5 Red we have enjoyed lots of creative activities linked to our new theme, “Come Fly With Me America”.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in line-dancing, looking at traditional and modern dance techniques. They followed the steps to a classic line dancing song, “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy ray Cyrus, followed by a modern dance to Steps 5, 6, 7, 8. As you can see 5 Red thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We may have some future line-dancers in our midst! Yee-Haw!

We have also been learning about Native American culture this week. The children then enjoyed designing and creating their own dream catchers using different materials. The final results were beautiful and all so unique, like our children!

Exploring the Arctic with 1 Red

17th November 2023L Chisholm

This week we have been looking at the various animals and people that live in the Arctic.  We have looked at the Inuit people and their customs regarding their food and clothing.  We have used our design and technology skills to create a split pin Arctic Wolf and our art skills to create a collage of an Inuit’s coat.  We looked at the materials and their properties to see which material would be best in the harsh cold weather of the Arctic.

2 Red Use Their Feet!

15th November 2023L Phillips

In our Learning Means the World theme, ‘Zero to Hero’, 2 Red were introduced to the artist Christy Brown.

Due to his cerebral palsy, Christy Brown had to overcome challenges, persevere and use his determination to find a way to produce his artwork.

2 Red spent their art lessons using their non-dominant hand – persevering and using their determination to create their own versions of his art. They even tried painting using their feet, just like Christy Brown, to write their name.

We Will Remember Them

10th November 2023C Campbell

Mrs Moody held a special assembly today ahead of Remembrance Day this weekend on Saturday 11th November. Remembrance Day marks the day that World War One ended, at the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918. The children learned about why poppies are such an important part of our tributes to those lost in battle and we also observed a period of silence to respect those affected by wars past and present. A wreath of remembrance will also be kindly left at the war memorial in Hebburn on behalf of Hebburn Lakes Primary School by Mrs Richardson.
