After reading the story Amazing Grace we’ve talked a lot about our aspirations this week. 2 Red showed the importance of teamwork while producing a collaboration of their ideas of what people need to do to achieve their dreams.
This week in Science, we have been learning all about circuits. First, we constructed a simple circuit, using wires, batteries, a lightbulb holder and a bulb. Then we added switches and buzzers into the circuits, identifying what happens if the switch is open or closed. Next, we investigated different materials to find out whether they were conductors or insulators.
For our LMTW Theme ‘That’s All Folks’ we have been learning about animation. The children in 7 Blue created a piece of stop-motion animation telling a story using play dough. We were so impressed!
Nursery explored the school on a listening walk. We talked about what we need to do to be a good listener including; using our ears, standing still and being quiet. We heard lots of things like keys jingling, children talking and people walking. I wonder what the children can hear if they use their listening skills at home?
We have been working so hard to develop our gross and fine motor skills over the last few weeks. Outside we have been climbing, running, dancing and negotiating obstacles. We have also been using scarves, dough disco, cutting, drawing tutorials and so much more to develop our fine motor skills.
This week Year 5 have been creating some amazing artwork using pastels. We analysed different planets and looked at the colours, textures, patterns and tones within. The children used their sketchbooks to practice various techniques before producing their own pastel planet for our display. We definitely have some amazing and exceptionally talented artists in Year 5!
We used our measuring and science skills to make gingerbread men. We discussed the equipment and the ingredients we would need. We then talked about the change the ingredients went through as we added an ingredient or completed an action. We then got to the best part….we ate him before he ran away and he was yummy!
In our Learning means the world theme of ‘Happily Ever After’ we have been looking at different types of music and how they make us feel. We discussed the tempo and dynamics of each piece and added our own sounds and movements. We then used this skill to retell a traditional tale adding appropriate sound effects when needed.
This week in our Music lessons, we have been exploring and experimenting with tempo using different instruments. First, we clapped along and moved our bodies to the beat of the music. In small groups, we played ‘Speed Fiend’. The ‘Speed Fiend’ clapped a rhythm pattern for everyone to copy, whilst changing the tempo. We all took it in turns to create our own rhythm pattern with different tempos. Then, we experimented with tempo using different instruments. We composed and performed a fast piece of music and then a slow piece of music.

We have had so much fun today! We have been lucky enough to have a visit from Freestyle Footballer, Jamie Knight. He taught us some fabulous tricks and as you can see 3 Purple were amazing! Watch out Jamie were going to keep going and smash your world records!
